Privacy Policy
Last updated: 3 July 2026
ChemPencil is a native Mac application that runs entirely on your device. This policy explains what we do — and, more importantly, do not do — with your information.
Short version
ChemPencil does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal data, usage data, or crash data. Everything you draw or open stays on your Mac.
Data we collect
None.
- No accounts, sign-ups, or logins.
- No analytics, telemetry, crash reporters, or advertising SDKs.
- No third-party trackers.
- No advertising identifier (IDFA) is requested.
Documents and files
Documents you create, open, save, or export never leave your Mac unless you choose to move them (for example by attaching a file to an email, saving to iCloud Drive, or copying to another folder). ChemPencil does not upload your files anywhere.
Network access
The Mac App Store version of ChemPencil ships without the network entitlement — the app is technically incapable of making network requests. You can verify this by inspecting the entitlements in the signed app bundle.
Sandbox
ChemPencil is a sandboxed macOS application. It has access only to the files you explicitly open or drop into it, and it uses the standard macOS print, share, and file dialogs for any interaction with the rest of the system.
Children
ChemPencil is a general-purpose tool suitable for all ages. Because we collect no data from anyone, we collect no data from children either.
Changes to this policy
If we ever change how ChemPencil handles data — for example, by adding an optional online feature in a future version — we will update this page and highlight the change in the release notes for that version. Older versions of ChemPencil that shipped under this policy will continue to behave as described above for as long as you keep using them.
